|
"Together, We Can Make a Difference
Today's environmental problems may seem too overwhelming for one person to tackle . . . but you don't have to do it alone. Now you have partners--50 of them.
50 Simple Things, the revolutionary 1990 bestseller, is back in a completely revised, updated edition . . . and it's just as innovative and groundbreaking as the original. The authors have teamed up with 50 of America's top environmental groups, including The Natural Resources Defense Council, the National Wildlife Federation, and Rainforest Action Network. Feeling stressed? Pull yourself together |
Feeling "stressed"? Problems everywhere you look? Stuck in the traffic again and late for work? Congratulations - you're human. There's nothing abnormal about having problems or a lot to do. They are not clinical conditions. Yet when we say we are "stressed" we assume that we are suffering from some medical malaise about which there is huge scientific evidence and a lot of fear. Indeed, if you go to your GP and tell him about these feelings, he might even give you a sick note.

"In a universe where we're all connected, each person has the ability to improve his or her life by following these seven vital keys (FEAR NOT): F -- Fearlessness, E -- Expect the unexpected, A -- Arise to every occasion, R -- Relax your energy, N -- Never Say Never!, O -- Observe, T -- Telepathy. I was reading the Oprah/ Eckhart board today and was inspired to post some Earth Day tips! Please comment and post other tips that you may have to share with our your fellow readers!
Here is what I wrote:
There are so many simple things that people could do to celebrate earth.
First you should make Earth Day a start of some new habits and not just do it for that day. Do simple things to start and build up.
Some quick examples:
- Be conscious about turning off lights that you are not using. I know people that light there house up like christmas tree and wonder why their bill is so high!
- If you have a programmable thermostat. Don't be lazy and just set it to one temperature. PROGRAM it do go down at night and when you are not home and have it come on just before you get up and come home. It makes a huge difference in my bill! If you have difficulty doing it look it up on the internet or ask a friend to help. Take action! Use an extra blanket at night if you get too cold.
- If your insulation in the attic is very thin or non-existent install some more. Go to your local hardware store and ask about how much you need, you will be surprised how much it helps in both winter and summer. It pays for itself right away and if you do it yourself it is extremely cost effective!
