7 Little Known Ways To Drastically Improve Your Learning
" Whether you’re heading into exams or haven’t seen the inside of a textbook in years, how you learn is going to have a big impact on your life. Unfortunately most people have pretty ineffective strategies for learning. Here are a couple tips for how to maximize the amount you learn so you can use more of it later.

1. Learn Holistically

I wrote a popular article entitled, How to Ace Your Finals Without Studying, where I detailed a process I call holistic learning. Learning holistically is basically the opposite of rote memorization. Although most people usually sit somewhere between the extremes of holistic learning and memorization, I’ve noticed that particularly smart people who learn effortlessly sit far closer to the holistic learning spectrum.

Holistic learning means relating everything you learn to things you already know. This creates an interrelated web of information. Trying to memorize everything and if your memory fails you, that information is unreachable. But by interlinking your web of knowledge, if one route becomes blocked another is accessible.

2. Visualize It

You need to make the information you learn visceral."

Self Portrait
Interesting photo of a 4-5 foot deep hole carved in solid rock next to the Smith River in southwest Oregon. During the rainy months the river overflows with such extreme force that the smaller harder rock (inside center-left) carves away at the hole and makes it larger each year! This must have been going on for quite a long time!

Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking
"Blink is about the first two seconds of looking--the decisive glance that knows in an instant. Gladwell, the best-selling author of The Tipping Point, campaigns for snap judgments and mind reading with a gift for translating research into splendid storytelling. Building his case with scenes from a marriage, heart attack triage, speed dating, choking on the golf course, selling cars, and military maneuvers, he persuades readers to think small and focus on the meaning of "thin slices" of behavior. The key is to rely on our "adaptive unconscious"--a 24/7 mental valet--that provides us with instant and sophisticated information to warn of danger, read a stranger, or react to a new idea."

Exercise linked to less anxiety, depression

"April 11, 2007 12:56:26 PM PST

A regular run through the park may improve not only heart health but also mental health, a study suggests.

In a study that followed a group of middle-aged British men for 10 years, researchers found that those who got regular vigorous exercise were less likely to develop depression or an anxiety disorder over time.

The effect was modest, and there was no evidence of a benefit from other forms of activity, including physical labor at work.

Dr. Nicola J. Wiles and her colleagues at the University of Bristol report the findings in the American Journal of Epidemiology."

Why should we have eight hours' sleep?
" A survey is suggesting that only a tiny minority of us are getting eight hours' sleep a night. But do we really need that much?

"Getting your eight hours" is one of those injunctions, like drinking plenty of water or not to swim in canals, that most people take at face value.

When former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was reported to need only five hours' sleep a night, it was taken as evidence of a near-supernaturally tough constitution.

And it's become an increasingly common sentiment that too much work and stress and missing out on our eight hours is the modern plague. "

Winning Without Intimidation
" Don’t Take It Personally ...in Advance!

Pat consults for hospitals. Before her latest assignment she was warned that “the people there are unfriendly, and even rude.” So, she geared her mind to not take their attitudes personally and just do her best work. According to Pat, “While they might have been a bit like that, since I’d already set myself to not let it affect me, I was fine. Actually, they weren’t bad at all and, on the last day, they told me they didn’t want me to leave.” “When I said, ‘Thank you for giving me the honor of working with you’ one person responded, ‘You’re the first person from your company who has ever thanked us!’ Perhaps my co-workers had the attitude problem.”

Dark Chocolate, But Not Tea, Takes a Bite Out of Blood Pressure
" MONDAY, April 9 (HealthDay News) -- Cocoa-rich products such as dark chocolate may help lower high blood pressure, but tea won't do much, according to a new survey of the medical literature by German researchers.

Although the thought of chocolate as a health food has captured public attention, not much research on the issue has been done, said a team from the University Hospital of Cologne.

Their report covered exactly 10 studies on cocoa with a total of 173 participants and five tea studies with 343 participants.

The benefits are believed to come from compounds known as polyphenols (or flavonoids), explained Dr. Dirk Taubert, senior lecturer in pharmacology and toxicology at Cologne and lead author of the report.

He leavened his support of chocolate with a bit of caution."

Matrix Energetics: The Science and Art of Transformation
"Book Description In 1997, Dr. Richard Bartlett experienced an event that would redirect the entire course of his life. He suddenly discovered that by lightly touching his clients while at the same time applying focused intent, he could restore them to a physically, mentally, and spiritually balanced state, instantly shifting misalignments that had plagued them for years. Most astonishing of all, he could teach anyone how to do this. Now, for millions of people looking for empowerment in an age of declining and impersonal healthcare, Dr. Bartlett shares this phenomenon in a book full of explosive potential.

In Matrix Energetics, Dr. Bartlett builds upon his popular seminars to teach us how to access the discovery he has made -- a process that merges the science of subtle energy with our innate imaginations to produce measurable results. By applying forces known to modern physics, each of us can tap into states of healthy awareness from different moments -- in essence, travel in time -- and bring them into the present for immediate, profound results. As Dr. Bartlett clearly shows, this practice requires no special training, produces transformation in the blink of an eye, and is available to everyone who has a willingness to learn.

"Matrix Energetics applies the principles of quantum physics as a unique and effective approach to healing. This is the essence of energy medicine." - C. Norman Shealy, M.D., Ph.D., president of Holos University Graduate Seminary, founding president of the American Holistic Medical Association, and author of Life Beyond 100

"Richard Bartlett is an invaluable gift to this world. He is one of the few people on the planet who are breaking the boundaries of what we have imagined to be possible for humankind." - Rhonda Byrne, executive producer of The Secret"
